This is a multipart message in MIME format. --=_alternative 005CDBF086256EEE_= Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" We occasionally have issues with Php and Informix. If we have a lot of activity, after a few hours users start getting -439 errors. Php runs on RedHat Linux 8 and we use an Apache webserver. The problem only exists, so I'm told, when RedHat is mixed with Apache. We have called Informix on this and have tried a few things, but not every suggestion has been tried yet. The 'fix' is to restart Apache when the errors start happening; if we don't do this eventually the web pages are completely unusable by everyone who tries to use them. Our Informix installation runs on Red Hat Advanced server. We currently use ASP/IIS for our web server software. We are not satisfied with the ODBC connectivity we are experiencing. We are looking at moving to another web server platform. ASP.Net is in the running, but it seems like we will not escape the same ODBC problems we have with ASP. Coldfusion and JSP don't seem to be a better solution either We have looked at PHP. It seems like the best solution where we can run it on Linux and be able to use better db connection libraries there. Does anybody have any suggestions? Experiences? Any feedback is appreciated. --=_alternative 005CDBF086256EEE_= Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" <br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">We occasionally have issues with Php and Informix. Time to switch to another distro? RedHat is not the only distribution out there, in fact it sucks compared to many other distributions. You should check out SuSE, or Gentoo, or even LSF, Linux-From-Scratch. RedHat just wants to be another Microsoft, somewhat divergent from LSB ( Linux Standard Base ) Linux. SuSE has the best admin tools, either in the desktop 9.1 or SuSE Linux Enterprise Server ( SLES ). Desktop is $79 USD, SLES is $999 USD for 8-CPU support. Yes you can run the $79 Desktop version on anything you want. Gentoo is somewhat innovative, yet lacks GUI admin tools or a GUI install. It also lacks compatibility with some software packages as it is a source based install, avoiding RPM's at all costs, but not alien to Linux as in Debian. Linux-From-Scratch is probably the best training you could ever get for Linux, and the best part, the download is simply instructions ( the recipe ) on what to do to create a Linux installation completely from the ground up. You might also want to check out Knoppix, this is probably the king of innovation in Linux with the live CD, running the OS entirely from a CD. Damn-Small-Linux is out there too as well as the Cool Linux CD, all booting and running from a CD. Very cool, and you'll see from these other distributions that RedHat is completely unnecessary, and not as important as their marketing would suggest. It looks like you are send SQL instrunctions through a connection which is in use by another page. This looks like a problem in the php-informix layer. Did you check in the PHP mailing lists? Eventually try a newer version of IBM Informix CSDK. Regards.
