It doesn't say anywhere in the supplement I'm looking at that GET_FLDBUF will return nulls. In fact, it says "The get_fldbuf() function returns the character values of of the contents of one or more fields in the currently active screen form". Since the contents of a field can be all blanks, it seems perfectly reasonable for get_fldbuf() to return a string of blanks. If you were in a construct statement, and you had typed ">27" in the field, that is what get_fldbuf() would return. It does not return (except coincidentally) a converted value -- it returns a character string, and if the field is blank, a set of blanks is perfectly reasonable. >is informix going to change this? I don't know of any plans to fix it, not least because that aspect is probably not deemed to be broken. There is a problem with get_fldbuf() which is due to be fixed at some time, and that is that if you have a field for a date (eg [f000 ]) and you type in a query such as "251192:311292" (meaning dates between 25 Nov and 31 Dec), then get_fldbuf() only returns the visible portion of the string "251192:311", not the complete string.
