Just my two cents, Personally, I love Unix/Linux, I love Tcl/Tk. I have found Informix to be the easiest RDMS to work with versus Oracle. I dislike monopolies (MS) However, Oracle is the only visible opponent to MS. Professionally, I face constant pressure for Windows NT migration. Informix needs to "team up with Oracle" and both should start promoting and supporting Linux as the low end alternative to Windows NT. I admire Bill Gates and his business genious, but I dislike monopolies and have always been for the underdog. However, I am stammered by the fact that that Oracle, Sun, Informix, (and Apple ) have powerful weopons but did not use them to counter the NT onslaught. It is like they are just sitting idly by and letting Windows take over. Linux is the obvious choice to compete against NT for low end to medium database servers. Informix should be more proactive and support it. IT WOULD MAKE my job as a consultant a whole lot easier to recommend and implement Informix/Linux/Tcl/Tk solutions (a good database and commercial support are the missing links) versus having to swallow NT crap. For the seven years of working with Informix, I have not seen much marketing or advertising or promotion of their products. A good example is lack of Informix books to show how to exploit Informix's database servers. Long live linux and tk! - Cesar Urquidez
