In article <1on8rbINN8dl@emory.mathcs.emory.edu> mark@cdin-1.compu.com (Mark Heringslake) writes: } } One of the fields I need to convert is a CHAR(15) containing info similar } to a DateTime type field into a field designated as DateTime YEAR TO MINUTE. } The problem is that the CHAR(15) data is not consistant and doesn't always } convert properly. When this happens, I get a } } 3) Is there another way to test the data BEFORE trying to convert into } the DateTime field? } If you're working on the project that I think you are working on... I'd handle it this way: 1) Use Informix-SQL to unload the data to pipe delimited ASCII files (probably already being done). 2) Use the Informix DBLOAD utility to load the data from the delimited ASCII files into the new database. The DBLOAD utility will print bad records to the screen and also write them to a file. You can then fix-up the error file manualy and re-run DBLOAD on it to finish your conversion. DBLOAD also has the ability to start loading at a specific record in the delimited ASCII file in case you exceed the maximum number of allowable errors (which is changeable by a command line option).
