(Alcohol does seem to help.) You just have to think a little. > You talked about employers wanting certified professionals, > but I haven't heard complains about employers wanting > BS stupid guys. > ??? The certification process is flawed. Having a BS is no indication of success, only that the individual has been educated in a base set of materials and has shown the ability to learn. If I hire a Software Engineer, I expect him/her to understand the principals of a language. How to read a BNF. OO methodology, good software development and techniques, and possibly something on either Databases, Compiler theory, or Operating Systems. That is all their degree means. I have someone capable of understanding the basic building blocks. It gives me a base level of expectations. Certifications of applications show nothing more than one can parrot what he has been taught. A better indication is what scars does the individual carry. > Every people is different, there will be Certified Stupid Professionals, > There will be Smart Certified Professionals with high technical knowledge > and there will be high technical knowledge professionals not certified. > > But please don't talk bad about the ICPP. > [Here is my posting] > } Sigh, > } Here we go again..... > } > } Well, do you want to *waste* $1000.00 to take all > } the tests? > } > } How long have you been using Informix? > } How good are your *other* skills? > } > } For some it makes sense. > } For others, it is just a waste of money and time. > } > } IMHO, since I tend to focus on the application side, the tests > } don't do a hill of beans. As I have stated, your milage may vary with the results. Certification shows that you can spew back what the manual says on recall. However, it is not an indication as to the ability of the individual. So, if the $1000.00 USD is coming out of your pockets, you be the judge. My post wasn't picking on the Certification. Just that it wasn't right for me. IMHO, the certification program was conceived as an additional revenue stream for Informix. Only they can deny that ;-) [Not that I am bashing them. :-] -Uncle Mikey BTW, On the Linux documents, why HTML instead of ASCII? I mean ASCII is pretty standard and easy to write. :-) -- #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ #include <No_Spam.h> #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT The author takes no responsibility for this post.
