RE: Informix access from Java

You may also use intersolv's odbc drivers which come free with Informix. The you may use microsoft J++ this will automatically generate code for = a form to query, etc informix data on an informix server via odbc but = through Java. I have detailed my problems to various folks at OpenLink. Some of these complaints were to your mail address. When I complained how slow OpenLink is wrt the jdbc-odbc bridge, I got this (in part) in reply: I'm not sure that a comparison of our Type 3 JDBC Driver with a Type = 1 JDBC-ODBC bridge is a fair one. I'm getting two very different stories from OpenLink. One says the comparison is not fair and the other says JDBC rivals ODBC. I see a factor of 4 dropoff from ODBC to JDBC performance on my PC running JDBC-ODBC to SQL Server, when compared to running ODBC to SQL Server (MS's ODBC). I see a factor of 4 dropoff on my Sun going from JDBC-ODBC to Informix, when compared to OpenLink to Informix. Thus, I would expect something like a factor of 16 dropoff in performance going from Java through OpenLink's JDBC to Informix, when compared to C(++) through ODBC to Informix. I've changed lots of software and hardware in the above comparision, so take this for what it is worth. In any event, using CLI from Informix with the jdbc-odbc bridge outperforms OpenLink JDBC -- on my platform with my schema.
