PARALLEL PROCESSING COMES OF AGE Real Applications from Industry and Commerce 28-30 June 1994 US Embassy, Grosvenor Square, London Seminar leader: Francis Wray, Computer Consultant Background and Objectives Parallel processing is a powerful enabling technology. Harnessing it effectively can significantly improve the competitiveness of businesses in many ways such as through advanced engineering design, improved resource scheduling and applications of large, high- performance databases. Using this technology existing commercial and industrial applications can be run much more cost-effectively. Those applications previously impossible through limitations of data access, memory or run-time can now be implemented. Parallel processing is now in widespread use with applications ranging from decision support to aircraft design. The objective of this seminar is to promote discussion of the main issues relevant to the use of parallel processing and to describe its rapidly evolving marketplace. This will provide IT strategy planners with relevant facts and ideas and help build a basis on which to formulate short-to-medium term commercial policies. It will further give those involved in the management of projects access to a forum where issues having direct impact on productivity and cost- effectiveness will be discussed in depth. UNICOM, the seminar organiser, has established a reputation as the leader in producing seminars focussing on the commercial and industrial aspects of parallel processing. Based on our experience over 8 years of organising these seminars, we now bring you a unique event providing a full coverage of the strategic issues exemplified by successful applications. This seminar is one of the very few events in Europe focussing exclusively on commercial and industrial applications of Parallel Computing. It is a user-driven forum for the discussion of the important issues relevant to maximising the benefit organisations can obtain from parallel processing. Leading experts from industry and commerce describe currently and imminently available systems Industrial and commercial users explain their requirements and the effective solutions that they have found. Representatives of the European Community and the UK DTI discuss their organisations' policies on Parallel Computing and how these will affect the business community. Who should attend Directors who need to know the competitive advantages new management information techniques can give their companies. IT Managers who need to be aware of the new capabilities that advances in technology are bringing Project Managers and Applications Developers Data Processing Managers with large-scale applications Managers with the opportunity to increase the competitiveness of their organisation through the use of advanced data processing or optimisation techniques Key topics covered include: The use of parallel processing in commercial databases, resource scheduling, and optimisation applications The evaluation and benchmarking of high-performance database systems The use of parallel processing in embedded systems such as virtual reality Optimum use of resources through the migration of applications from single to clustered workstations to massively parallel systems. Associated exhibition There is an associated exhibition of related products and services, with vendors on hand to answer queries and demonstrate the distinctive features of their products. For further details of the business opportunities offered by this exhibition contact Alec McCutcheon at Unicom on +44 895 256484. Gala Dinner On the evening of 29 June, there is an optional gala dinner in the marble foyer of the Embassy, giving extended time for discussion in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
