Depends on a variety of factors: Geographic location (local market, programmer supply/demand, etc) How good is the person (or how good they THINK they are!)? Are you paying them directly, or going through middle men? Length of assignment Type of work I've seen an amazing variation in pricing. I've also seen LOTS of situations where there are 3 and 4 and more layer of middle men where each of them get a cut of the hourly rate, and the client is paying very high fees and the programmer is by no means getting all (or even most) of it!
