esql/c v5, sqlexec problem

Hi, I have a problem that has me very puzzled. I'm hoping someone here can give me some pointers, or at least confirm my suspicions. SCO UNIX 3.2v4.2 platform, SE & esql/c v5. I have a program that connects to the database (thereby forking off sqlexec) and then forks & execs a different program which also connects to the database. The problem is when the parent process closes the database and exits, the parent process exits, but sqlexec does not. It will exit when the child process dies. It hangs even if the child process doesn't connect to the database. Um, no prepare statements, if that might make a difference, all embedded and it (apparently) works otherwise. At first I thought it was related to the fact that my child process had a parent pid of the sqlexec process instead of MY parent process (don't ask me how they managed that one...). I called Informix and they told me to use the sqldetach function even though the documentation said it was only for processes that didn't call exec. I tried it and the parent process id's changed to what I was expecting, but the sqlexec still hangs. I tried an sqlbreak() before the $close database, and it made no difference. I tried an sqlexit() after the $close database and then the PARENT process hung as well as the sqlexec process. The database is 5.01 and ESQL/C is 5.02. When we got ESQL/C I was told that everything would be fine as long as they were both version 5.xx and the xx didn't matter. This was quite a while ago. Today a tech support person told me that it *did* matter and I'm wondering if this problem has something to do with that. I'm going to start wrestling with tech support about the version issue today (forgive me if I offended you, I have consistently bad luck with their tech support), but I was hoping that maybe someoen had a similar problem at some point and could help me out, or say "yes, those versions won't work together" or something. Yikes, this is long. I hope I explained myself fairly clearly. I hope somebody who can help me read this far... :-) Thanks for any help anybody can give me. fleur -- Fleur [Diana] Dragan / fleur@clark.net -- It's my name. Really. It is.
