I' ve never had the problem you have, and i would like to know which are your informix releases, but I think ther is three way to try: the first one is to use the complete references of the columns , "select ccentete.cce_numcde,ccentete.cce_solde,...,addresses.adr_raison,..... from ccentete,....,addresses,... where ccentete.cce_numcde = ccligne.ccl_numcde and ..... group by ccentete.cce_cptgal,...,addresses.adr_raison order by ccentete.cce_cptgal,..., addresses.adr_raison " the second way is to use the number of select list for group by and order by " select ..... from .... where ..... group by 5,6,1,2,3,4 order by 5,6,1,2,3,4 " the third way is to use a simple work-around: You can put the results of your *UNORDERED* *GROUP BY* select into a temp table and then you can select on this table with the order by statement. (Maybe this is a stupid idea , but it works) If there is something wrong please let me know.... Hope this help you Pierluigi "PIGI" Frullani pigi@frumar.it
