To speed things up there are a set of recommendations in the release notes about the set of update statistics statements which will yield sufficiently good query results while executing fastest. These recommendations are implemented in my dostats.ec program, if you have ESQL/C, which is available from the IIUG Software Repository (www.iiug.org/software/index.html) as part of the posting named utils2_ak. The default statistics that 5.08 kept are insufficient for the more intelligent optimizer in 7.30 to use. Art S. Kagel
