Re: Informix vs. Fox

Hi Mario, do you really have to compare Microsoft Visual FoxPro 5.0 against = Informix? Hmm, FoxPro is a truly desktop database (and is doing this job = quite well). It has no standalone sql server inside the box but you can = use FoxPro as a frontend to Informix if you need a better graphical user = interface and hate to program 4GL apps. Personally, I would prefer = FoxPro as frontend tool. Using it as main database in a company depends = from what you want to do with it. If you have hundreds of user needing = access to an address database I would take Informix as backend (with = FoxPro as frontend). Giving ten secretaries access to a database is no = problem with FoxPro alone. And last but not least, Visual FoxPro is a developer tool. You can use = it for ad hoc queries but I wouldn't giv it to my secretary. Excel, = Access, Crystal Report is better for this task. --=20 cu Reiner (munich, germany) "Mario R.
