Turns out there are two problems:
- One is a bug in the port of 4GL we're using which is related to the
'SELECT "Hello" INTO smallint_variable' problem.
We've logged this one with Informix.
- The second looks to be a subtle change to error handling, which will only
affect people who DON'T use WHENEVER [ANY] ERROR in their 4GL.
The change means that the above listed errors aren't reported at runtime.
eg: FOR smallint_var = 32700 TO 32800
DISPLAY smallint_var
END FOR
Doesn't fall over when "smallint_var" reaches 32768 -- it instead
"wraps around" to -32767 (approx).
Again: If you use "WHENEVER ANY ERROR STOP" the code *will* fall over,
so I'm not sure it's a real-world issue.

AFAIK it's to improve compatability between RDS and C-4GL. I don't think
it's too big a deal.
