Basically, login as root, reset the informix password, and off you go. Now, if you've also lost the root password, you've got more work to do. There is no login information in the sqlhosts file. Can you be more precise about the error message if what I said previously is no help. Also, it should only matter when you go to do administrative work. Most people should be using their own login to access the database.
