Re: NewEra Pricing

} } Did anyone else notice the NewEra pricing near the end of one of the } postings of the Informix NewEra press releases? For those that didn't } it was: } } 4495 USD per client (read developer) for the development version } 495 USD per client (read user) for the runtime } } I would be most interested to see some feedback from other Informix users } on this pricing. The company that I work for is a small (10 programmers) } software house with about 2 million lines of Informix-4GL code. We have } patiently awaited the release of NewEra for about 3 years, seeing it as a } way to enter the world of OOP and client-server while at the same time } "leveraging" our investment in 4GL code. However that price will be too } high for us. To be honest it seems to me that Informix has decided that it } has "outgrown" our software house (which is their right), even though we } have been responsible for several hundred thousand dollars of Informix } run-time licence sales over the last 6 years. Yeah - it's interesting - they appear to be going for the big corporate accounts.... with DOS software. Methinks they learned some poor lessons from Oracle. Of course, if we want them to still be around in a couple of years - then it's about time they started thinking like sellers. I only hope that they have not forgotten how to act like engineers. j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker | Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA| "They call her aunt only when jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com | her cucumbers are ripe."
