I just got a new quote, and as of July 1 the maintenance costs went up about 30%. This was explained to me as an attempt to "keep up with the Jones'" (or, in this case, the Oracles'); Informix found they were leaving lots of money on the table compared with Larry's outfit. I can understand, but I don't have to like.
