basic logical log question?

Hi everyone. I have a pretty basic logical log question here. For an IDS 10
database I need to add some logical logs (there's not enough and they are
filling up too quickly). I know this is a basic thing but...when I add some
additional logical logs aside from assuring that the dbspace that houses the
logical logs has sufficient available space for the additional logs and also
assuring there is sufficient dasd space for the backups (we use onbar and
write to dasd).....are there any other "gotchas" I should look out for? I
know..pretty basic question... thanks
Hello!
Just adding your question, I´m having the same problem using IDS 11.5.
We are running an OLTP system on 11.50.FC1TL,
on top of uses we have:
407 active, 1024 total, 994 maximum concurrent => onstat -u output
and
548 active, 1408 total, 1367 maximum concurrent => onstat -x output
(obs: I have several transactions around with A---- flags. Does it really
indicates that these transactions are not completed/rolled back)???
My old system had 99 logical-logs of 10Mb each, and we could stay 3 days
without doing an onbar -b -l (in some troubles this is very usefull to us).
Now, we´ve already have 104 logical-logs of 48Mb each, and our system is
taking 3 minutes to fill one log, with a fill rate of 246Kb/sec !!!!
I´d really need to find out why it´s filling so fast, if someone could give me
a hand....
Thanks and let´s go!!!
Regarding the OP first question:
- No... Try to keep your logical logs on a separate dbspace (not in
rootdbs). It's a good practice. I'd also suggest you to keep them the same
size as this can facilitate managing and monitoring.
As for your questions...:
- 11.50.FC1TL?! "TL" as in TimeLimited?
- Are your sure your transaction rate didn't increase?
- Are you using LOG_INDEX_BUILDS?
- Did you change your database(s) logging mode (from buffered to unbuffered
for example)?
- Did you change your LOGBUFF parameter?
Regards.
