script equivalent to i4gl program
Posted in 2008
The poster wanted a scriptable alternative to I4GL's interactive syspgm4gl program-definition screens, since hand-entering hundreds of modules is impractical. Mike Aubury suggested looking in the IIUG software archive for a tool that converts syspgm4gl entries into makefiles (then just run make). When the poster couldn't find one and asked what command the i4gl menu actually runs, others pointed him to the manual and to the command-line compiler c4gl, e.g. "c4gl -o program.4ge source1.4gl source2.4gl ...", which he could drive from his own scripts/makefiles. No ready-made conversion script was actually produced in the thread.

Hi Masters, Is there any script or simple way to compile 4gl modules equivalent with i4gl program (syspgm4gl). I know i4gl provide syspgm4gl to construct compilation of 4gl modules, but in situation where we need to compile hundreds of module, it is not simple task to write using syspgm4gl. ------------Sample of syspgm4gl--------------------------------------- Program [tus10c40 ] 4gl Source 4gl Source Path [tus10c40 ] [/****/general ] [tuscom ] [/****//src/lib ] [tuserr ] [/****//src/lib ] [tusglob ] [/****//src/lib ] [tushelp201] [/****//src/lib ] Other Source Ext Other Source Path [tus4gl ] [c ] [/****/runner ] [tusauth ] [c ] [/****/runner ] [tusfilefn ] [c ] [/****//runner ] [tuspatch ] [c ] [/****//runner ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ thanks before.
Check the IIUG software archive - there should be a program to convert syspgm4gl to makefiles... Then just run 'make' ;-) If theres nothing there that fits - we've got a few scripts that might help too.. Sad for me, i can't find it. another way to resolve my problem is, what is actual command executed when i press i4gl->program->compile ? after know this command maybe i will construct my own script to convert syspgm4gl to makefiles. tq --- On Thu, 12/18/08, Mike Aubury <iiug@aubit.com> wrote: > From: Mike Aubury <iiug@aubit.com> > Subject: Re: script equivalent to i4gl program [14360] > To: ids@iiug.org > Date: Thursday, December 18, 2008, 4:41 AM > Check the IIUG software archive - there should be a program > to convert > syspgm4gl to makefiles... > Then just run 'make' ;-) > > If theres nothing there that fits - we've got a few > scripts that might help > too.. > > On Thursday 18 December 2008 09:34:51 Wahyu Cahyadi wrote: > > Hi Masters, > > Is there any script or simple way to compile 4gl > modules equivalent with > > i4gl program (syspgm4gl). > > I know i4gl provide syspgm4gl to construct compilation > of 4gl modules, > > but in situation where we need to compile hundreds of > module, it is not > > simple task to write using syspgm4gl. > > ------------Sample of > syspgm4gl--------------------------------------- > > Program > > [tus10c40 ] > > > > 4gl Source 4gl Source Path > > [tus10c40 ] [/****/general ] > > [tuscom ] [/****//src/lib ] > > [tuserr ] [/****//src/lib ] > > [tusglob ] [/****//src/lib ] > > [tushelp201] [/****//src/lib ] > > > > Other Source Ext Other Source Path > > [tus4gl ] [c ] [/****/runner ] > > [tusauth ] [c ] [/****/runner ] > > [tusfilefn ] [c ] [/****//runner ] > > [tuspatch ] [c ] [/****//runner ] > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > thanks before. > > > > > > > *************************************************************************** > > >**** Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a > response in the discussion forum. > > -- > Mike Aubury > > http://www.aubit.com/ > Aubit Computing Ltd is registered in England and Wales, > Number: 3112827 > Registered Address : Clayton House,59 > Piccadilly,Manchester,M1 2AQ > > > ******************************************************************************* > > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in > the discussion forum.

It's all explained rather well. Honestly, why do manufacturers bother to produce manuals? Furrfu.

The command line compiler invoked by i4gl is called c4gl. c4gl -o program.4ge source1.4gl source2.4gl ... There are other ways to use it, but that's a decent start. > --- On Thu, 12/18/08, Mike Aubury <iiug@aubit.com> wrote: >> From: Mike Aubury <iiug@aubit.com> >> Check the IIUG software archive - there should be a program >> to convert syspgm4gl to makefiles... >> Then just run 'make' ;-) >> >> If theres nothing there that fits - we've got a few >> scripts that might help too.. >> >> On Thursday 18 December 2008 09:34:51 Wahyu Cahyadi wrote: >> > Is there any script or simple way to compile 4gl >> modules equivalent with >> > i4gl program (syspgm4gl). >> > I know i4gl provide syspgm4gl to construct compilation >> of 4gl modules, >> > but in situation where we need to compile hundreds of >> module, it is not >> > simple task to write using syspgm4gl. If the data is in the syspgm4gl database, then the program compile should take care of things. If it doesn't, what's the problem? If the data isn't in the syspgm4gl database, where is it stored? I usually use makefiles, myself, on those occasions when I build I4GL code. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2008.0513 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused."
