OTC... You linked, I followed the links. Those pages had links I followed those links. You linked to your blog and I followed the links on the blog to see what was in them. With respect to the "Success stories". 1) Yes they do somewhat exist. That wasn't the point of my "mock horror" of 'Shirley you jest'. [BTW, I guess I should call you Shirely from now on since you didn't follow up on the punch line...] The point was that there wasn't a full blown customer success story that could be created in to a .pdf literature. The type of things which you would put in to an attack pack literature. You do remember those from the Informix days, right? Oh wait, you weren't in sales back then, were you? :-) These full blown marketing .pdfs could be downloaded by the sales teams and in SSM, if you were not in column A, you could attack and then defend using them to prove your point. In column A, you could defend against the FUD and then counter, depending on the FUD and who's in column B or C. (You have to understand SSM to appreciate what I just said.) Little 'paragraphs' that have a single comment from a 'satisfied customer' are nice, but they are pretty much worthless unless you have a whole bunch of them. The biggest difference between this and a 'attack pack' version is that in the 'attack pack' version, you go in to more details about the customer and how the win made them more efficient/effective. You would also have some sort of contact information if not on the .pdf itself, but within the sales site of the sales rep (SSR, pillar specialist, client rep, regional marketing rep) that could try and get a live comment from the customer to help you win your deal. [Read Sales is a Team Sport to understand how to better leverage your sales force in generating sales, among other nice sales books. ;-) ] 2) I did see the datablade. Again how is this an attack piece rather than just a 1 paragraph blurb on a web site. Physically being able to print off a .pdf (color) and hand it to your customer as part of an information package... much more compelling and static. BTW, wow, one blurb. Go back to IBM's 'success stories for Informix link'. You'll find that several stories are not Informix centric, but are another IM product that works with DB2, Oracle, Informix and Sybase. Informix is just mentioned in the page. 3) Upgrade from 10 to 11 delayed until the last moment? Dude! Get real. I've come off a customer site that was running Oracle 9i until Sept of last year and then only went to Oracle 10g even though 11i has been out on the market. Customers are slow to jump to the next product because they don't know what 'defects' were introduced and are all risk adverse. They don't want to be the first customer to find a defect and have it cause them to lose money/sleep on its effects on their business. (Yes, customers will adopt early if they can afford to have a separate test platform and developers can work on it. Most customers these days are trying to control IT costs which means increasing the delay in upgrade cycles unless there's a compelling reason to switch. Part of the cost in upgrading is having the spare equipment to test the newer release and your code. That takes time, money and people. ) We see people still on 7.x which went out of support when? And it was developed how many years ago? (You can bet they were running on platforms where they weren't paying licensing support... so even having to purchase new licenses is still cheaper than had they paid for support for all those years.) But I digress. What a clown. You linked to your blog page and just putting up a link to a page that has many links doesn't cut it. You want to make your point, you also need to spell out which link or which item on the page that you want the reader to focus on. This is why I do a little blurb and say here's the link. Are you sure your real name isn't Zippy and you love Polysorbat- 80? ( http://www.zippythepinhead.com/pages/themsong.htm ) Link included for those who are a tad challenged and don't follow underground comics from the 70's and 80's. But hey! What do I know? Even when I play 'dumb' its not without a reason. ;-) -G > Date: Mon, 1 Jun 2009 09:39:48 +0100 > From: obnoxio@serendipita.com > CC: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: Re: {Spam?} RE: Informix Roundup: 30 May > > Ian Michael Gumby wrote: > > > > > >> Date: Sun, 31 May 2009 19:26:57 +0100 > >> From: obnoxio@serendipita.com > > > >> Ian Michael Gumby wrote: > >> > > >> > Getting a case study or a customer reference from an Informix > >> > customer? > >> > Shirley you jest! > >> > >> http://www.informix-zone.com/node/748 from here: > >> http://obotheclown.blogspot.com/2009/05/informix-roundup-27-may-2009.html > >> > >> Or did you mean some other kind of case study? > >> > > > > Ah where do you want me to begin. > > I would settle for admitting that there are case studies out there. > > > As to following the 'case study' and success stories...
