FYI: Dual Core Chips and pricing for IDS
Posted in 2005
Hi, since I know that this topic has been discussed in this list in the past, here's now the official (and positive :) answer: On April 21, 2005, IBM Software Group announced a new pricing strategy for servers and blades based on 32 bit and 64 bit x86-compatible architectures ("x86 Architecture") and for OpenPower? servers implementing dual core server chips. For both the x86 Architecture and OpenPower? platform only one processor license will be required for the two processors on each dual core chip. This new pricing is an attempt to reflect the actual value a customer receives from this technology. It applies to all IBM software licensed per processor including DB2 UDB and IDS.
