Re: Restoring individual databases

Wish upon a star!
OnBAR might be able to do a table-level restore, but once you introduce
referential integrity, this becomes problematic at best.
To my knowledge, you can't inherently restore just one database in OnBAR or
any other Informix backup product.
The way we've implemented here is that each database has its own dbspaces,
and there is no crossover. So database X lives in dbspaces A, B, and C
while database Y lives in dbspaces D, E, F, and G. These sets are mutually
exclusive, and NO databases or db objects live on root or in the critical
dbspaces.
In this way, if we need to restore a single database, we do a dbspace-level
recovery of just the dbspaces that belong to that database.
And you should NEVER EVER put user data in a dbspace containing logical
logs, the physical log, or in the root dbspace, or this whole theory goes to
hell.
Hope this helps,
