I didn't know this works - i'd have to dive into the manuals to see if it's
now valid. Still, bouncing the engine is sometimes not desirable.
the command
onparams -a -d dbspace [ -s size]
is the usual way. Contemporary advice says to put the logical logs in their
own dbspace. You may need to allocate a chunk to the engine to accommodate
the new logs.
Once you've added sufficient logs, they do not become active until you've
done a level zero archive. You could do a fake level zero to /dev/null, but
if this is an important engine then please do a real archive to tape. Don't
take even small risks.
If you want to get rid of the old logs, you need to use
onmode -l
until the current log has moved to your new logs, then trigger a checkpoint
with
onmode -c
then you can use
onparams -d -l N
to remove logical log N (add one and repeat until finished)
None of this takes the engine offline.
