The same can happen with tbcheck, or any other Informix utility which accesses shared memory. Using SIGKILL (-9) on *anything* is troublesome. I use it only when nothing else works. Other signals ought to be handled by the process with reasonable results, although you can't count on it. Once I brought down OnLine by accidentally sending SIGQUIT to a tbcheck. SIGQUIT can be generated from the keyboard, and in fact I had accidentally pressed it. Well, live and learn ... -Jeff
