While creating a new online instance using "oninit -ivy", this is the
following error message
that we get.
Creating infos file "/usr/informix/etc/.infos.kil_serv3" ... succeeded
Writing to infos file ... succeeded
oninit: Fatal error in shared memory creation
We have created initial root dbspace.
The onconfig params related to shared memory are as follows :
SHMBASE 0x1000000 # Shared memory base address
SHMVIRTSIZE 65536# initial virtual shared memory segment size
SHMADD 8192# Size of new shared memory segments (Kbytes)
SHMTOTAL 0 # Total sh
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There are others that afffect shared memory sizing, these only affect
the sizing of the Virtual Segment. The Resident segment is most
affected by BUFFER, LOCKS, LRUS, CLEANERS, and other permanent data
structure tuning parameters.
Are there other instances on the machine? Have you reconfigured,
rebuilt, and rebooted the kernel according to the release notes
($INFORMIXDIR/release/*/*/IDS_7.3 or whatever version you are running)?
Is there enough physical memory and swap to contain the configured
shared memory (RESIDENT + VIRTUAL + MESSAGE segments)? Did you set the
RESIDENT parameter?
Please post the entire contents of your ONCONFIG and sqlhosts files and
relevant lines from /etc/hosts and /etc/services showing the local host
entry and the services you used in the sqlhosts file.
