Well check in the Fedora newgroups on how to setup raw devices. That is an OS issue not an IDS issue. Have you unpacked and installed the IDS software via the installer? I using the new GUI installer do a custom install and do not create an instance. Then check the release notes under $INFORMIXDIR/release. There should be a file listing required OS patches and kernel parameters etc. I would then create a small test instance say 500Mb in a cooked file to make sure IDS will start ok. You can then shutdown the test instance and delete the file. If you have problems then post here.
