Free SDK 2.02 and Standard Engine 5.0
Posted in 1998
Dear Friends:
I have an application which uses the Standard Engine(?) 5.0 server.
Periodically, I have to fix things in the database using "dbaccess".
When I noticed in this newsgroup that the SDK2.02 could be downloaded for
free, I thought I might take advantage of this--perhaps I could write
a few little C routines to make expedite my work.
So far, I can't quite figure out how to get this to work. After monkeying
around a bit I am at the point where a simple test ESQL program gives
me error 25507, which seems to have something to do with an ONCONFIG
file, but as far as I can tell the 5.0 server doesn't even have one
of these.
Is it possible to do write code with the SDK2.02 and use it with
a 5.0 server? If so, could you give me a pointer? Is there some
extra piece I need to buy?
I don't think I can upgrade the server--the database is part of a
product for which we don't have source. We do have client-side run
time licenses (obviously since we are running the software).
I thank you for your time.
P.S. I appologize for this naive question, but I haven't quite been
able to pin this down. I know we're running the 5.0 release because that
is the extension of all the files in the release directory, but how
can I confirm that this is the Standard Engine. Is knowing that we
run over TCP/IP instead of through shared memory sufficient to confirm
this?
Thank you.
