It's meaning is easy: WAIT TIME after an ESCAPE character. This means, how long should the tty driver wait for an additional character after it detected an escape character. This is neccessary to tell a function key from several key strokes. Normally, the waiting time is a few milli-seconds and depends from the baud rate. Since there is no appropriate baud rate in a LAN environment, someone decided to introduce this variable. In other words, try yourself to find out, how you can determine the difference between the single keys ESCAPE Key + '[' Key + 'B' Key and CURSOR DOWN Key ( will result in the same keys on most terminals ) Bye Stefan PS: DBESCWT=5 means, wait up to five seconds after an ESC key.
