Informix and Raid7

Has anybody out there implemented Raid 7 with informix, did you see a preformance improvement? I heard that any sort of Raid fragments the database too much is this true? Also, Is there any utility that can be used to check the intergrity of the data backed up, rather than crossing your fingers and hope the restore works. This is for 5.07UC2 running on HPK420/10.01.
