Re: Informix (raw or cooked)?

As Ian Goddard, a sef-confessed UNIX and INFORMIX GURU, something I would never admit to being, has stated, the COOKED option is really only there for testing and emergency use. The impact of using COOKED is slower performance, problems with recovery if UNIX crashes, and the fact that although the coked files are backed up by standard UNIX back-up regimes they cannot effectively be used. I often use cooked files to test OnLine features, but never for anything than that. > > >On Tue, 31 Oct 1995, Fred wrote: > > >} We are installing Informix Online 7 on a DEC Alpha running OSF UNIX, > >} There is a conflict between our systems guru and the Informix SE as > to >} whether it should run on a raw or cooked device.
