Does anyone know how Informix handles the paging space/swap usage after a data load has completed? It does not seem to release resources like a normal process when the child process has terminated, only after the engine is bounced. I assume that this is normal. Thanks, Tony
Hi,
the memeory used by the server is mostly (>90%) shared memory.
Therefore it is not released after a particular task is done. Also, tasks
are worked on by threads that run in a pre-configured number of
processes, where the processes keep running after the threads have
finished their task.
Shared memory is allocated in segments according to the configuration.
If for a certain task new of these segments are allocated, there is
a chance that after finishing the task these segments are not in use (at
least for some time). These segments are not automatically freed,
instead they are kept for future use. However, you can try to free
them using "onmode -F". It will free unused shared memory segments,
i.e. return them to the OS. For more information see the manual
"Administrator's Reference" about the command "onmode -F".
Regards,
Martin
