Bug or Feature in Ace?

Hello. I came across this today for about 2 hours before I made a
break-through.
I'm using SE 7.12
I have a table (t1) with 2 columns, one column (c1) with numbers and the other
column (c2) with single character values. One of the characters I use in c2 is
a dollar-sign ($).
Now. I populate and use this table with standard SQL and everything works fine
with no problems. The problem is when I use this statement in Ace:
select c1, c2
from t1
where c2 = '$';
what happens (as far as I can tell) is that the $ messes with it to return no
rows. Am I missing something in the book which explains how to use a $ in Ace?
And I have tried double-quotes " with no success.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joseph
