Oh, I'm extremely happy with the products -- We're running the 7.x DSA engine on a four-way Sun Enterprise 4000, and it runs very well with virtually no database maintenance (we spent alot of time designing the physical database structure before we migrated from 5.x to 7.x). Heck, before Walt mirrored Kerry's Informix FAQ, I was the North American mirror -- I *like* Informix. I think they have great products. The problems I described in my last message have been ongoing for more than six months. IMHO, *that's* a problem! I've been in the business for 15 years as a vendor in New York (I always had excellent sales/support) and as a customer in Los Angeles (I've been very disappointed). Like I stated in my original message, sales and service might be terrific in your area, but these are my experience in sunny California. I blasted my account rep about stupid Informix license policies like user-licenses tied to specific applications for eternity -- Watch out! They never tell you about this stuff when you're buying new software! I stated that Informix is giving me an incentive *not* to develop further applications on Informix, I was told he would check into it. That was several months ago... It's sad and it's frustrating. -- Clay Irving <clay@panix.com> http://www.panix.com/~clay/
