ESQL 7.12, IDS 7.24 IDS Problem
Hi everyone! Two weeks from now, we will be upgrading our Informix servers from 7.12 to 7.24. ESQL/C will also be upgraded from 7.12 to 7.24. However, our ESQL applications won't be recompiled just yet. I tried to do some tests simulating this. What I did was compile some applications in ESQL/C 7.12 (namely Art Kagel's dostats and listdb7) and tried to run it against a 7.24 engine. Everything runs fine on the 7.12 engine/host but executing these programs on a 7.24 engine/host gives me: $listdb7 There are currently 3 databases available: # Database/Table Name === ======================= 1 stores7 2 sysmaster 3 sysutils Error FETCHing database statement. Error: -461, ISAM: 0. $dostats -d stores7 Working on database: stores7. customer(MEDIUM)...SUCCESSFUL Cannot FETCH curs2. SQL=-461, ISAM=0. Note that : Environment Host2: IDS 7.12UC3, Solaris 2.5.1, ESQL 7.12 Host2: IDS 7.24UC6, Solaris 2.6, ESQL 7.24 Host2 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$INFORMIXDIR712/lib:$INFORMIXDIR712/lib/esql: $INFORMIXDIR724/lib:$INFORMIXDIR724/lib/esql: My question is: Is ESQL/C 7.12 and IDS 7.24 compatible? The problem is that the ESQL/C 7.12 functions used by the program compiled on the 7.12 host are not compatible with the 7.24 functions of the same name provided by the 7.24 host. If you ran the 7.12 code with the 7.12 libraries in one INFORMIXDIR and accessed the 7.24 engine running in a separate INFORMIXDIR, you would have no problem. I'd recommend recompiling. If you've got your system properly organized, this is simply a question of running make in each of a few selected directories, and the make will recursively build the entire applications.
