# of instances per machine

Hi! I wonder if there's any recommendations about how many instances you should configure on the same machine. I especially want to know if the statement "no more instances than physical processors" is a good rule of thumb. To support this rule is the view that each instance's CPU virtual processor should have one physical processor on it's own. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/
If the question is 'should' you configure, the answer is ONE! Certainly for a production server. If you have man CPUs then you can likely get away with 2-4 with enough memory. Art S.
