Each of them has Informix ISQL and C-ISAM based applications, running with Informix/Net. There are NFS mounts that connect the two systems, allowing the databases to be shared. When Informix isql is started, and a database is opened on the remote system for queries, a process called ``sqlexecd'' on the remote system handles the queries, then responds to the local sqlexec. This places most of the CPU load on the remote system. We would like to explore ways of forcing Informix to process the queries on the local system, even though the data sets are NFS mounted from the remote system. It seems that Informix will automatically detect that the database tables we want are NFS mounted, and will bypass NFS by sneaking across to the remote system, running sqlexecd, retrieving the data, then sending the results back across the network. How can we make Informix process the queries locally, even though the data is remote? -- Paul Gillingwater, paul@actrix.gen.nz
