Bogus warnings during esql preprocessor phase "Unexpected '('"

We have an old ugly error coming from the esql preprocessor. When it hits a line like this: extern int atexit(void (*func)(void)); We get a warning like this: esqlc: file "pvm_sched_sql.tmp.ec", line 1159: Unexpected '(' It's no big deal - we can ignore the warning and everything is fine, but we'd just as soon make it go away. Does anybody know how? This line is NOT even in a DECLARE SECTION. It's completely outside the scope of anything esql should be looking at...
