I am quite sure that an 4GL prepared insert will be faster than inserting via a stored procedure. Simply think about what have to be done at runtime in these two cases. The same is true for a simple select. Generally you use stored procedure only when some amount of processing has to be done. It is most efficient in a client/server situation to avoid shipping large amounts of data across a network. :Potential responders, please reply to my email address as well as the :Newsgroup.
