Paul, I have seen many dumb mistakes in my time, but I think the biggest and most expensive mistake has to be the company that recommended setting the backup tape to /dev/null during testing. This resulted in a customer going live and changing tapes religiously for 6 months before they uncovered the problem. I don't think I need to embarrass the company by naming and shaming them, nor do I think that I need to explain why this was an expensive mistake in this learned arena. If anybody wants to enquire privately I will let them know. regards Malcolm
