Is there some reason you didn't use dbload? It has a feature to commit after
n rows, as well as ignore y bad rows. (OnLine Admin Guide v5.0 pg7-12)
You must take the engine to quiescent mode to turn off logging. You can do
this in a script, but it will knock off your users. You must knock them off
again to turn logging back on. Also you have to do an archive before and
after (respectively) turning logging off and on.
(Online Admin Guide v5.0 pg3-29)
We have used the split method, and it worked well enough, I guess.
BTW, are you up on the indexes for the tables concerned? A Gazillion files
will load up a lot faster if you don't index them during the load, but rather
re-create a new index after the load finishes. Also, watch for extent usage,
lock usage, disk loading, etc. (School of Hard Knocks, 3:00am)
Good luck!
