408 errors occur primarily if the database engine process dies between replying to one SQL message and receiving the next messaeg from the front end. They shouldn't happen, but if they do try turning on SET EXPLAIN and investigating the output. It might help. I have seen a number of instances of 408 errors and they have all been very difficult to solve. Good Luck!
