In $INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333 (or is it 0333/en_us?) is a file with the values kernel parameters were set to compile the port of OL. Check those against your machine. We had this when we used the now live machine for training - it would only start two instances based on 'onconfig.std'. The third one would have the above error.
