Arrogant? Me? Likely, at least occassionally, but I normally strive for
aloof. ;-) Pompous? Never.
> prima donna technicians who don't have any social skills, and think
Technician I'll admit to, that's my job. You can't know me very well to
refer to me as a prima donna, though, but I can ignore that as puffery to
make a point.

Umm, that's why newbies come to CDI. Whether it's SQL, C-coding techniques,
engine setup and tuning issues, the advice of those of us who've seen it
already is the raison d'etre for this list/newsgroup. Let us not forget
that and try to avoid crowding the bandwidth. Yes, discussions of subjects
of mutual concern have their place here. I join them when I have something
to say that I think makes a difference, too. However, I ignore discussions
that just crowd out the primary issues.
> you just flew out the window. Your contributions while noble are
Any respect I have engendered here I have to earn. Your respect is yours to
grant and yours to revoke. I'm not here for respect or admiration oraccolades. I'm here to help others use my favorite RDBMS, period. Do I
appreciate the respect of others? Of course I do, I'm human. I even like
it oftimes. I don't crave it.

But what you don't see in you own arrogance, is that these discussions ARE
irrelevant. Not irrelevant in absolute, certainly. Not irrelevant in the
larger scheme of the Informix user community, agreed. HOWEVER, they are
irrelevant to someone like Jim Goldrick and others who just want to learn
something about the RDBMS product they are using and who may have questions
to which they need answers. In THAT context, the context in which I was
(BTW) light heartedly commenting, it was irrelevant.
> you have to offer, and I haven't heard a single word disrespecting
Pardon me, but I NEVER disrespected any individual or group. I have little
respect for what I perceive as endless digression that can have no useful
effect. Complaining to us about IBM's marketing, or lack thereof, for IDS
gets us nowhere. You want to make a difference? Talk to folk at IBM in and
out of Information Management. I have. I will continue to do so. That's
how we make a difference. Ultimately, after all of the screaming and
bi*&^*%g that went on, that's how we finally convinced Informix to support
Linux and it's how we finally convinced IBM that IDS was not a throwaway
cash cow. Next project...

I'll try to live up.
With respect.
