I/O bad request chunk 0

Hi,
We have an Informix Dynamic Server 7.31.UD3 on a HP/UX 11.11 system.
Recent days during onunload process (to a local file) informix started
to generate the messages below in online.log file.
I/O bad request chunk 0, pagenum 456, pagecnt 1
I/O bad request chunk 0, pagenum 464, pagecnt 1
I/O bad request chunk 0, pagenum 472, pagecnt 1
But the onunload ends successfully with no warnings in command prompt.
We restored the database from this file on another system with onload.
No warning in terminal or online.log. It restored the database.
So there seems no problem.
I have made a little search about this error and found this link.
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21209432
IBM says this is a known deffect and recommends upgrade to UD4 or a
higher version.
Due to the restrictions of our application using informix, it is
difficult for us to upgrade the Informix version.
I want to know how this error affect our daily work. Especially the
backup process.
Anyone facing the same problem?
Can we say that the backup taken with onunload is healthy without any
doubt?
Thanks
Abdullah AKOGLU

Upgrade to v7.31UD4+ (I'd recommend going all the way to the current release
(UD8 I believe) because of other interrum bug fixes, but if UD4 fixes your
particular problem, makes you more comfortable, and you can pry it out of IBM's
vaults, do that. xD4 is a maintenance release over xD3 so there will be no
functional changes and never any change in disk structures. That means three
things:
1- Upgrading to cD4+ will have no potential to harm your existing data.
2- Your software will not even know the difference.
3- If you install the new version in a different INFORMIXDIR, then if you do
feel a need to rollback the upgrade for some reason, the rollback will be very
fast (just shutdown, change INFORMIXDIR to point to the xD3 directory, and
restart the instance).

I'd also look at the physical health of the disks - is there any
indication of problems down at the hardware level (IDS logs; system
logs). I might also look to run oncheck on the system.

I don't necessarily read it every week, even.
I made an oncheck -cr and searched the system logs for disk problems.
There seems no problem.
I think this is something about informix memory area where system
catalogs reside. Because chunk 0 is not a real chunk.
I will contact the informix support.
Art and Jonathan, thanks for your help
