This seems like a good opportunity to remind people that most articles from comp.databases.informix (including gatewayed informix-list messages) are saved in an anonymous FTP archive on mathcs.emory.edu (IP 128.140.2.1). The archives go back to the beginning of the mailing list in February, 1991, which predates the creation of the newsgroup. There is an index of Subject: lines in the file /pub/informix/list/indexes/subject. I have also seen c.d.i articles in the Usenet archives on mcsun.eu.net, but I think those are in a moving window that only goes back so far. I don't know *how* far. The system's IP address is 192.16.202.1. If you don't have access to FTP, all is not lost. There are sites connected to the Internet that provide mail servers for use by anyone who doesn't have access to FTP. Such a server acts as an intermediary that takes your request by e-mail, gets the files you want via FTP from a specified FTP site, then e-mails those files back to you. One of the better known of such sites is decwrl.dec.com, the DEC Western Research Lab in Palo Alto, CA, USA. If you know of an FTP mail server site nearer to you, please use it instead to save wear and tear on the Net. To obtain a help message, send e-mail to the appropriate server address consisting of the word "help". The instructions for that server will be returned to you in an e-mail message. As an example of using a mail server, to get the files "README" and "ls-lR" from /pub/informix on mathcs, send a message to ftpmail@decwrl.dec.com like the following: reply <your domain-style address or bang-path from decwrl goes here> connect mathcs.emory.edu chdir /pub/informix get README get ls-lR quit If you know of other sites where Informix files or messages are archived, I'd appreciate hearing about them.
