IWU Conference Update: 1998-07-21 17:55:00 PST Conference Notes ================ This is for the benefit of those of you out there who were not able to attend the conference. Seattle has been enjoying fantastic weather. It is bright and sunny, very warm, crystal clear air, and really a nice town. Great beer, nice locals. A whole lot nicer conference feeling this year compared to last year. Seattle is an extremely casual town, reminds me a lot like Florida, only a lot more young people. A really interesting experience so far. I drove around town shopping for some computer stuff, and got to see some of the outer lying area. Very nice, and nothing what I expected. Very laid back compared to SF. The c.d.i. gang has also been spending a lot of time together, sampling beers, and the really great food here in Seattle. We had a Sunday brunch in the Seattle Space Needle and of course had a really nice view of the town. Anyway, our Monday IIUG meeting was extremely beneficial. The IIUG is really becoming a tour-de-force for user wishes, and Informix *is* listening. I am extremely proud of my association with Informix once again. As far as specifics, yes, we have met with Informix marketing and clarified our positions on marketing and a few other things. Before you jump to conclusions, no, it wasn't just coming from just me, but also greatly from others in the IUG Leadership Council. I really wish the rest of you who couldn't make it could have been a part of this here in person. Fred Hubbard has done a great job as president of the IIUG, and at running the meeting, and providing some really good leadership. ( Seriously! :-) Now we wait for the big day tomorrow, and Bob's keynote speech. BTW, I got a brief preview of the conference floor, and everything looks really great. The IIUG booth is more visible, and positioned in a high traffic area near Sun. So, things are looking really positive. I am really a lot happier this year for obvious reasons. There really is a lot more of a positive feeling here, Informix has much to be proud of, and will be exhibiting real leadership from here on out. We'll all be doing some rubbing shoulders with developers from Informix tonight, and the new IDN network. The new IDN site has a lot of promise, and is being put together with a lot of young energy. I like what I'm seeing! Informix is really doing many things right, and I congratulate them for that. There is no doubt they are listening to what you want, and responding to user wishes quickly. It definitely is not the Informix of the past. Anyway, more tomorrow.
