not sure if this is possible or not - here's the scoop - just upgraded to Solaris 7 ( running ods 7.23) and now using disksuite as opposed to vm. Upgrade went fine and restore of database services was easy.... here's the question - Can I change the paths for the symlinks to the raw devices? I know that you can easily relink to a new disk if necessary - but how about doing the opposite and changing the name(path) of the symlink? Really don't want to stay with the vm directory structure - if possible. ex - /dev/vx/rdsk/dbdg/rootchunk to /dev/dbgroup/rootchunk thanks, Maria ---------------------------------------------------------------- Maria L. In 5.xx, to reduce the lengths of the paths to a minimum, I used to use the directory "/i" to hold my chunks. For convention that is now a link to ~informix/disks since old scripts still look for /i/* when trying to locate chunk links. OH! To the question, before I forget altogether: No, you cannot change your linknames once the chunks have been added to the engine. The ONLY solution is to build a new engine with the new links and copy the data, unless you are brave enough to attempt to rewrite the chunk table reserved pages. Art S. Kagel
