Re: Monitor table growth

Years ago I wrote a little utility to do exactly what Bill is suggesting here. The concept being to update the table on a regular basis. There was then a cutsey ace report which pointed out high growth tables. I don't know that I have it on disk anymore (that was a couple of employers ago) but if you check with Mike Alder the code I cooked up might still be in his hands - Mike? Are you there? It would be in the jparker/dbgrow directory. cheers j. ---------------------- Forwarded by Jack Parker/Boston50/Epsilon on 01/20/98 02:05 PM --------------------------- Please respond to Bill Ennis <ennis@ssax.com> To: mscinfosys@peg.apc.org ("Information Systems, Maroochy Shire Council") cc: informix-list@rmy.emory.edu (bcc: Jack Parker/Boston50/Epsilon) Subject: Re: Monitor table growth If you run update statistics regularly you can check the systables table. there is a column names nrows that provides the number of rows in the table. Beware that if it is current ONLY after UPDATE STATISTICS is run! I would just create a table where you can store the results and compare. i.e. store table name, date, and number of rows. Then you can analyze the data programmatically (or SQL) on whatever criteria you want. -Bill } } We are running Informix 5.03 on DGUX 4.11.
