Question about Online 5.0

Hello, I have access to Informix-Online 5.0 and would like to know if the following things are possible from within dbaccess or any other Informix program: 1. Is it possible to access two or more tables in two or more different databases which may even be in different Dbspaces? At the same time (that is from the same program)? It seems that I can only access one database at a time with the DATABASE command. 2. Is it possible to refer to a table column by column number instead by column name? (i.e. update column five instead of updating column "customer_no" assuming that customer_no is the fifth column.) This _could_ be done via the systables and syscolumns tables but even then I need some kind of "indirect addressing" to do it. Apologies if these questions are overly stupid. I am new to this matter.
