In the past I've used sytax (in SCCS) similar to; LET g_version = "@(#)%I%" ... ... WHENEVER ERROR CALL error_log(g_version) When the source is committed, the SCCS string is replaced by the delta number LET g_version = "1.17" and error_log() can write it out. The module name can be done similarly with %M%. No guarantees on syntax (I suffer from memory leak just like all the good programming environments), but you get the idea.
