Tim, I've heeded Art's advice, ignoring the Fine Manual, training, yea even the Informix 50/60 defaults, and got a performance boost. The manuals also explain that the chunk write is cool because they are sorted writes, but hey what about the overhead? And on my old system which requires a real balancing act to keep running, any delay for writing the buffers seems to lock it up in an eternal (CKPT REQ) during someone's critical section.
